My Story – a Love Affair With Photography
I’m Alena, mum of three and founder of Lifestyle Photo in Auckland. My photography business was launched more than 10 years ago. It has since taken on a life of its own, but in reality my love affair with photography started way before then.
Being born and raised in Russia and then living on a small island in the Philippines with my husband, I had no shortage of beautiful surroundings to photograph. But, as a naturally sociable person, my focus turned to portrait photography. Capturing the essence of people, their personalities and connections fascinates me. Having studied financial management at university, I had sound business knowledge which helped me no end when I decided to set up in business on my own.
After the birth of my first baby, I started working with photo stocks to supply images for online libraries. This was really the best form of tuition; the feedback I received helped me hone my photography skills.
It was after my second baby arrived that I decided to take the plunge and go it alone. Thus, Lifestyle Photo was born. It really is the best decision I’ve ever made!
I’ve been living and working in New Zealand since 2016, and have since had the pleasure of meeting and photographing heaps of families. Newborn photography is where my real passion lies; I love being part of memory making and exploring the bonds between babies and their families.
My vast library of props, outfits, baskets, wraps and accessories are tailored to every photo shoot, making each one special and unique. I have an exceptional eye for detail, and frequently hand craft and select items for photography set ups. When it comes to styling the shoot, I’m open to your ideas or I can style the entire session myself.
As well as the option to come to your home, I have a wonderfully warm, cosy home studio in Torbay on Auckland’s North Shore. From the moment families step into this space, they remark on the serene sweeping views and any tension instantly melts away. My patience and calm aura ensure that each newborn or family photo session runs smoothly and we capture amazing photos of you and your bundle of joy. These timeless photos form part of your family’s journey and will help you remember your child’s newborn features for many years to come.
